What led me to dog treats ?
When I was young, I was a lube bay mechanic in a garage. It was the perfect balance for a young man, with glimmering autos and every tool at my fingertips. In the early 80’s I decided to follow my passion to become a horticulturalist, and for the next 10 years I was devoted to green expos and growing millions of plants, to keep the planet blossoming.
In the start of the 90’s it was time for a Tree Change. Over the next few years I helped my parents develop a little family farm hidden in the Deongwar State Forest, Queensland, where I established off-grid living and became self sufficient until 2019, on a little mountain looking over a pretty lake in the wilderness.
Life can change in a moment!
A bulldozer accident bought me to my knees in 2002, so over the next few years I became a fragrant garden specialist in a little produce market in Brisbane, and In an unusual act of fate my friend Loretta, formerly from Brookfield Produce, bumped her head on my trailer and suggested – “Why don’t you try dog treats!”
So one bright sunny day I looked down into my faithful blue cattle dog’s eyes and handed her the corner of my sandwich, promising her a pig’s ear, which was one of the only dog treats available back then and I realized Loretta was right and our little tail-waggers need more than just a pat and a pig’s ear. So I embarked on a journey to seek out high quality products, from our meat, fish and poultry industries, to change the lives of our four-footed fur babies forever, and in 2002 a fledgling dog treats business began from an $80 starting budget.
Living in the wilderness.
Like many of us who live in the wilderness, access to a shop front is rather problematic, so I took my project to Brisbane Market Place which was 100km away and with one brave jump in 2005 Treats 4 Dogs became a weekend business so popular my customers made me feel like coming back for well over a decade.
Life is different now and the markets are a wonderful memory, after I decided to spend more time in the mountains and trial a new world online for my customers, with the creation of the Treats 4 Dogs eBay Store.
Rising from the ashes.
In 2019 fire engulfed my world and I survived with old shorts and a torn shirt. The home I had built with my own hands and everything I had ever worked for was turned to ash, except for a couple of scorched motorcycles and a partially cooked car, by a furious wild fire that took everything from the mountains to the horizons in every direction.
I’ve never been the type to give up on anything, so I embarked on a fresh pathway and created my new website ‘Treats4Dogs‘. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone soon!
